RTD in partnership with the Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts celebrated the grand prize winners of the “I Heart My RTD” student art contest by unveiling their artwork on the sides of a 40-foot RTD bus at two celebratory events at the winning schools this week.
Watch Channel 8 Aurora segment below on I Heart My RTD contest airing on Wednesday, Jan. 7:
Nearly 2,400 middle school art students from the Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts submitted artwork on an interior bus card that represents what public transportation means and how it benefits the community for the “I Heart My RTD” student art contest pilot program.
A grand prize winner from each district was announced on Oct. 31.
The winners were:
“Clean Environment with Clean Air” by Sydney C., Fox Ridge Middle School (Cherry Creek School District)
“You Never Know What’s In Space…” by Jenna B. and Madison B., Aurora Frontier P-8 (Aurora Public Schools)
The winners from each district then had the opportunity to learn more about how a transportation agency works behind-the-scenes, as they worked with an RTD graphic designer to turn their artwork into a printable design to wrap a 40-foot bus. The contest theme was “My World. My Art. My RTD”. The aim of the contest was to encourage young people in the community to be aware of and engage with their public transit system through art.
The specially-wrapped bus will be out on regular routes, so keep an eye out for it. All of interior bus card entries will be placed in buses throughout the system.
