R Line trains now testing through crossings in Aurora
Posted on 08.31.16
RTD has started testing trains along parts of the R Line that include some at-grade crossings in Aurora.
Motorists can expect brief closures and uniformed traffic officers conducting traffic through crossings as the train moves through.
The train in the photo was pushed/pulled by a tow vehicle called a "Unimog." It traveled at very slow speeds as part of our initial testing. This happened on August 9 from Abilene Street to Exposition Avenue to the Aurora Metro Center Station and back.
Construction almost finished
When Aurora residents see a train moving on the tracks, it’s a positive sign that construction impacts from the project are winding down.
However, even as we see fewer impacts, RTD is working hard to educate the public about the importance of being safe around buses and trains.
Safety is RTD’s number one priority and we have an excellent safety record that we want to maintain as we prepare to open the line at the end of the year.
Whether we are performing construction work or testing rail systems, our safety message is the same —please pay attention and drive carefully through the area.
