Progress is really showing now on the Southeast Rail Extension. Crews have started bridge work and you can see the results.
The pictures show caissons for the I-25 bridge structure. The caissons serve as part of the foundation for the bridge.
The work in the photos took place just east of I-25 and south of Lincoln Avenue in mid-August 2016.
This bridge will carry light rail trains over the highway between the Sky Ridge and Lone Tree City Center stations when it opens in 2019.
It's the biggest of three new bridges that will be built for the project. It will be 1,397 feet long with 11 spans.
The Lincoln Bridge will be 620 feet long with five spans and the RidgeGate Bridge will be 506 feet long with four spans.
Bridge construction will likely start to impact traffic in the area during the fourth quarter of 2017.
