Public Meeting for 16th Street Mall Transit-Way Alternatives Analysis

RTD will be holding two public meetings on Thursday, July 28, to gather input from the public on the consideration of replacing the transit-way (bus travel lanes) on 16th Street Mall with an alternative surface. Attendees will be asked to look at five alternatives for the transit way and provide feedback on the designs they like, dislike, and why.

Since its construction nearly 30 years ago, the Mall’s aging infrastructure has reached its design life span and updates and/or maintenance are needed to ensure the Mall’s continued success.

The purpose of the project is to identify and evaluate a range of alternative surface materials and/or treatments for rehabilitation and maintenance of the 16th Street Mall transit-way that reduces the current safety issues and high maintenance costs associated with the granite pavers and improves the reliability of the 16th Street Mall shuttle service. To consider alternatives, RTD is initiating an Alternatives Analysis and a cultural resources evaluation pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA).
