A Winning Combination: Bikes and Transit
Whether you're an avid bicycle commuter or a recreational cyclist, you can include RTD in your riding plan. RTD's bike-n-Ride program combines bikes with transit. It's a healthy, economical and environmentally friendly way to commute to work, school or recreational activities.
Roll along with bikes on buses
All buses except the 16th Street FREE
MallRide are equipped with bike racks on
the front of the bus. Our easy-to-use bike racks can hold two bikes and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bikes can be loaded at all bus stops except those marked
“Non-bicycle stop.”
Two-wheeled adult (except recumbent bikes) and children’s bikes fit on the bus bike racks. Motorized bikes are not allowed on any bike rack or inside the baggage bins.

If the bicycle rack is full the bus operator will determine if your bike can be loaded either in luggage bins (on Regional and skyRide buses) or inside the bus.
If the bus operator determines that the passenger load will be light enough to safely accommodate a bicycle throughout the trip, he or she may allow a bicycle inside the bus. However, if the bus becomes full or a disabled passenger boards, passengers with bicycles must be prepared to comply with all requests from bus operators to move from the priority seating and wheelchair securement area.
Tips for bringing bikes on Regional and skyRide buses
Make tracks with bikes on light rail
Bikes are allowed on light rail any
time on a space-available basis and at
designated doors only. Motorized bikes
are not allowed.

Bike lockers
Bike lockers are at most RTD park-n-Rides, light rail and transit stations. Bike lockers are a good alternative for commuters who need a secure storage space for their bike on a regular basis. Each locker is designed to hold one bike and bike gear like helmets, panniers, locks and lights. The bike locker is to be used for bike parking only.
To lease a bike locker for the first time, you will have to submit the initial Bike Locker Lease Agreement in person to any one of the following locations: Boulder Transit Center at 14th/Walnut in Boulder; the Civic Center Station at Broadway/16th Street Mall in Denver; or the Market Street Station at Market/16th Street Mall in Denver. The fee for a six-month lease is $30 and a one-time padlock fee of $20 is due when the lease agreement is submitted. The padlock is yours to keep. The $30 rental fee is due every six months the locker is leased.
Each bike locker lease agreement expires every six months. RTD will NOT contact the customer or send renewal reminders; it is the sole responsibility of the customer to renew the lease agreement in a timely manner with RTD.
If RTD does not have a renewal agreement on file by the 15th of the month following the expiration month, RTD will remove the RTD issued padlock and any items found in the locker will be disposed of without further notice.
To renew a bike locker lease, a Bike Locker Renewal Lease Agreement (PDF) needs to be submitted with the $30 lease renewal fee. The form can also be obtained at Boulder Transit Center, Civic Center Station or Market Street Station. Submit the form with the renewal fee in-person at the three stations mentioned above or mail it to:

Bike tree racks
RTD has enhanced several park-n-Rides with new high-density bike racks called the bike tree. The bike tree was designed to hold 10 bikes and has a canopy to help protect bikes from weather elements. To use the bike tree, the patron must lift their bike and place the rim of the front wheel over the black horizontal peg located on the top bar of the rack. The bike frame and both wheels can be locked to the rack. For those patrons who prefer not to lift their bikes, the traditional inverted "U" racks are
also provided.

Bikes left on buses
Bikes accidentally left on buses are held for 20 days. Passengers may contact Lost & Found in Denver at 303.299.2288 or in Boulder at 303.442.7332 to verify that a lost bike has been found. The passenger must describe the bike and bus route for RTD to identify the correct bike. If the bike is identified, it will be tagged with the owner’s name and information, after which it can be picked up at Lost & Found.
Some bikes do not arrive at the Denver Lost & Found until the next day, so please wait 24 hours before calling to check on a lost bike.
The Boulder Police will pick up any bikes left on buses that have not been retrieved after 20 days. They may be contacted after 20 days for bike retrieval at 303.441.3333. The Boulder Police offices are located near the RTD Boulder Transit Center.
If RTD’s Lost & Found or Telephone Information Center is contacted shortly after the bike is left on the bus, RTD may be able to track the bus so the owner can meet the bus and retrieve the bike sooner.
Denver Bike Sharing
Denver Bike Sharing and Denver B-cycle have partnered to operate a Colorado nonprofit program designed to promote health, quality of life and preservation of the environment in Denver. The program was formed by the appeal of Mayor Hickenlooper as part of the city’s Strategic Transportation and Climate Action Plan. Denver Bike Sharing is governed by a board of directors comprised of business and civic leaders.
The program works by purchasing a membership online or at any B-Station. Once you are a member, you can check out and return a bike from any B-Station throughout the citywide system. Riders can monitor their personal fitness because B-cycle bikes are equipped with computers that track mileage and calories burned.
B-stations are currently located throughout downtown Denver, Capitol Hill, Cherry Creek and the University of Denver campus. RTD sites for the Denver Bike Share program include Denver Union Station, Market Street Station and the Louisiana & Pearl and the University of Denver light rail stations.
The Denver B-cycle system operates from March 1st through November 30th, seven days a week, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. From 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., members will be unable to check out bikes from the stations but will be able to return bikes to any station.
